Evidence-based therapeutic exercise protocols for musculoskeletal rehabilitation, designed for clinical implementation and patient education.


Overview

Our lab develops standardized, progressive rehabilitation protocols for common musculoskeletal conditions. Each program is designed as a structured video-based patient education series with clear progression criteria, enabling consistent clinical delivery and home exercise adherence.

The programs emphasize a "form before intensity" philosophy — patients must demonstrate tissue tolerance, pain control, and movement accuracy before advancing to the next phase.


Active Programs

Rotator Cuff Rehabilitation Program

A comprehensive protocol for rotator cuff pathology rehabilitation:

Phase Focus Key Exercises
Phase 1: Mobility Pain control, scapular mobility Scapular mobilization, clavicle mobilization, wall clock exercises
Phase 2: Activation Scapular stabilizer strengthening Trapezius, serratus anterior activation, scapular posterior tilt training
Phase 3: Strengthening Progressive resistance Rotator cuff strengthening, functional integration

Core Concept — Shoulder Hygiene: Proper scapular posterior tilt positioning as a daily habit to prevent impingement and promote optimal shoulder mechanics.

Lumbar Spine Rehabilitation Program

A phase-based protocol for lumbar spine disorders:

Phase Focus Key Exercises
Phase 1: Pain Control Posture education, core activation McKenzie extension (stages 1-4), lumbar lordosis positioning
Phase 2: Stabilization Core endurance, motor control Neutral spine training, hip hinge mechanics
Phase 3: Functional Dynamic stability, return to activity Progressive loading, functional movement integration

Target Population: Patients with NRS ≥ 5 pain during activity.


Progression Criteria

All programs use a standardized 3-point checkpoint system before advancing stages:

Checkpoint Criteria
Tissue Tolerance No inflammatory signs, adequate tissue healing
24-Hour Pain Rule Post-exercise pain does not increase by next day
Movement Accuracy Correct form and motor control demonstrated
